Biology

1. Mission

The training of biology teachers for secondary education. The training of biologists to work in laboratories in areas such as health care, food industry, plant protection, environmental protection, in zoological gardens, nature reserves, etc.

2. Objectives:

Cognitive objectives
  • To gain knowledge of world biodiversity.
  • To comprehend the evolutionary laws of the living world.
  • To gain knowledge on the origin of life and species relatedness.
  • To gain knowledge of the morphology and anatomy of living organisms.
  • To gain knowledge of the physiological and biochemical properties of living organisms.
  • To understand the principles related to the transmission of hereditary characteristics of living organisms.
  • To comprehend the levels of organization of the living world and the influence of environmental conditions on the evolution of organisms.
  • To be aware of the principles pertaining to nature protection.
  • To understand applied aspects related to biology in different areas: agriculture, animal husbandry, industry, etc.
Applied objectives
  • To build practical skills by means of laboratory and field applications.
  • To build didactic skills, such as the transmission and reception of knowledge by students.
  • To encourage students to participate in national and international professional meetings.
  • To help students acquire necessary skills for didactic and scientific paper writing.
  • To help students acquire research skills needed in laboratory and field activities.
  • To gain knowledge of methodologies in areas related to biology.
  • To be aware of biological laws patterns applied to agriculture.
Communication and relational objectives
  • To acquire teaching skills based on knowledge related to psychology, pedagogy and biology teaching methodology for secondary education.
  • To be aware of and be able to apply modern methods and interactive strategies in the teaching and communication processes at all levels of education.
  • To acquire notions pertaining to professional conduct that can be applied to the teacher-student relationship or to other social groups and establishments dealing with biology.
  • To build environmental consciousness and behavior with a view to preserving the environment.

3. Subjects studied in the first year

CURRICULUM

The major Biology has a 3 year study span. Graduates obtain the diploma and title of Bachelor of Science in Biology. The specialization for day courses has been approved by HG 410 on 25.04.2002.
